How to set the Sender ID on my account

The Sender ID is the name the recipient sees instead of a number. See what is allowed in the name, how to request it from within the platform and what each status means until it is activated.

Last reviewed:

The Sender ID is the name that appears as the sender on the recipient's phone, in place of a number. In iSend you request it from the platform's Sender ID menu, it has up to 11 Latin characters and is activated after review by our team. Trial accounts send with the Sender ID "TEST iSend". Your business name is set when you activate a package.

What is allowed in the name

The platform accepts the request only if the name follows the mobile networks' rules. The same name can be submitted once per channel.

Rule SMS Viber
Maximum length 11 characters 20 characters
Letters Latin, lowercase or uppercase (A-Z) Latin (A-Z)
Numbers Yes (0-9) Yes (0-9)
Space, period, hyphen Yes Yes, plus the & symbol
Greek characters, accents, other symbols No No

Examples that are accepted: KONET, My Shop, ISEND.GR, Dr-Papas. Examples that are rejected: ΚΟΝΕΤ (Greek letters), Καφέ Κήπος (Greek letters and an accent), KonetWebServices (16 characters), Shop&Go on SMS (the & is allowed only on Viber).

The name must match your business name or trademark. Names that refer to banks, public services, courier companies or other businesses you do not own are not approved.

How to submit the request

  1. Sign in to the platform and open the Sender ID menu.
  2. Click Request new Sender ID.
  3. Choose the channel, SMS or Viber. To send on both channels with the same name, submit two requests.
  4. Type the name. The form checks the length and the characters immediately.
  5. Click Submit. The request appears in your list with the status "Pending" and our team is notified.

Once the request is reviewed, the status becomes "Active" and the name appears in the sender selection of every campaign, in automations and in the API. If you use the WooCommerce plugin, click Test Connection in its settings so it loads the new Sender ID into its list.

What each status means

Status What it means
Pending The request is waiting for our review. Until then you send with whichever Sender ID you already have active.
Active The name was approved and is available for all your sends.
Payment required You chose a paid Sender ID and its payment is pending. It is activated as soon as the payment is completed.
Expired The period of the paid Sender ID passed without renewal.
Blocked The name was rejected or revoked, usually because it does not match the business or refers to a third party.

What applies during the trial

The trial account with the 50 SMS always sends with the Sender ID "TEST iSend". This way the recipient understands it is a test, and your name is not used before it is reviewed. As soon as you activate a package, submit the request for your own name from the same menu. The package prices include the Sender ID with your business name.

Three things worth knowing

  • The recipient cannot reply to a message with an alphanumeric Sender ID. Opt-out is done with the STOP link that is added automatically to marketing messages. If you want replies, you need a virtual number.
  • Keep one name everywhere. The same sender on SMS, Viber and the plugin builds recognition. The recipient sees all your messages in the same conversation on their phone.
  • You can have more than one. A business with two stores or two brands requests one Sender ID for each and chooses the right one in every campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a Sender ID with Greek characters?

No. Mobile networks accept only Latin letters, numbers, space, period and hyphen in the sender field. Write your business name in Latin characters, as it appears on your website or in your logo.

How long does approval take?

The review is done by our team during working hours, Monday to Friday 09:00 to 16:00, usually the same day. Submit the request before scheduling your first campaign, so the send does not have to wait.

Can I use the same Sender ID on SMS and Viber?

Yes, with two requests, one per channel, because Viber has different length and character rules. After approval you choose the same name on both channels.
